Flood resilience within the Garang Watershed in Central Java has at the least involved two main regions which are Semarang Regency and Semarang City. Semarang Regency, which is located in the upstream area, is ecologically important in terms of flood management that could affect the mid- and downstream area. Therefore, it is important to maintain the quality of the ecosystem and its services that contribute to flood prevention such as the storm water management.
ACCCRN has shared findings from the latest research on the role of evidence based research in supporting a policy making process at the Regional Conference on “Peri-Urban Ecosystems for Enhancing Urban Resilience”. The conference was organized by Gorakhpur Environmental Action Group (GEAG), Gorakhpur and ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, South Asia, in collaboration with ACCCRN.NET, UNICEF India, and School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, India, with the support of the Rockefeller Foundation, on 18th and 19th September 2017 in New Delhi.
The City Veterinary and Agricultural Services (OCVAS) of Batangas City in collaboration with the East West Seed Co. have introduced intercropping method in the Pinamucan area of Batangas. This multiple cropping practice involves growing two or more crops in close proximity. Farmers can assess crop suitability through this practice. Irrigation is a challenge for farming in Pinamucan because of its geographic location and hilly terrain. Intercropping enables farmers to choose and cultivate crops that can give higher yields, allowing them to adapt to the local climatic conditions and increase their incomes.
