The ACCCRN Network is pleased to announce the best papers that will be presented at the 3rd International Conference on Regional Development (ICRD) in Semarang, Indonesia, 9-11 November 2016.

The 3rd International Conference on Regional Development (ICRD) aims to provide a medium for exchanges of knowledge, information and experiences regarding the implementation of urban and regional concepts around the globe.

This year, the conference will address the theme Enhancing Resilience: Bridging Knowledge and Policy for Cities and Regions

The participants are cordially invited to take a part in the following sub-themes:

  1. Implications of climate change adaptation and resilience for the improvement of livelihoods
  2. Transboundary issues and challenges for frontier and less developed areas

As the winners, the selection panel chose these papers:

Sub theme 1

Nimisha Jha and Rohit Virmani

Works for national Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) in India

Their paper on the topic:

Institutionalisation of local solutions to build resilience of livelihoods

Sub theme 2

Sarah Allen, Ph.D Candidate York University

Her paper on the topic:

Urbanization and alarmism within water security in the Mekong River Delta:  An Urban Political Ecologoy Case Study of Can Tho, Vietnam

The criteria have been developed to measure the quality and relevance of the papers, focusing on:

  • Applied science or lessons from implementation are more preferred than research-based ones;
  • Urgency of problem to be addressed should be clear (for example, specific on impacts and threats of climate change; clear on groups considered vulnerable; able to frame the issue within urban nexus; etc.);
  • Relevancy to ACCCRN context and sub-theme (for example, considering the inclusivity aspect can become an additional point);
  • Can the paper have significance and potential impact (or at least constitute interesting information) for ACCCRN members?;
  • Might the discussion of the paper help to expand further implementation, scaling-up, replication, or research?

Congratulations to the winners!
