Mercy Corps Indonesia through the Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network (ACCCRN), is excited to invite you to our event Resilience Talk in Jakarta.

Our theme for this "Resilience Talk" is ‘Unacknowledged Values of Urban Ecosystems: An Analysis for Dhaka City’. More than half the world’s population now lives in urban and urbanising areas. Asian cities lie at the heart of this growth. Yet these cities are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change as they constitute complex socio-technical systems in rapidly changing physical environments. A critical issue is that few municipal governments have jurisdiction over the entire ecosystems they both depend on and affect. Yet as cities expand, gradual changes in land use and occupation transform wider ecosystems.

During this talk, we will be discussing issues related to urban ecosystem services assessment, valuation and their nexus with the socio-economic systems. And also the potential integration of environmental, economic and social aspects of urban ecosystem services management through quantitative and qualitative evaluation.

Our speaker is:

  • Naeema Jihan Zinia Monash Sustainable Development Institute, Monash University, Australia. She is currently performing doctoral research on green adaptation for ecosystem services management in Dhaka, Bangladesh at Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI), Monash University, Australia.

Discussant:

  • Hilda Lionata, Best Practices Specialist TNC Indonesia (tbc)
