Climate Change is the news of the hour as they say, with the studies and awareness growing around the subject, ways to mitigate and adapt these indefinite future predictions are also increasing day by day. One of the ways is making the existing cities resilient so that they can turn back into their normal condition in the time of an emergency or a disaster; a hazard.

100 resilient cities is one such concept flourished around the world by The Rockefeller Foundation, where resilience is defined as 'the capacity of individuals, communities, businesses and systems within the city to survive, adapt and thrive no matter what kinds of challenges they experience'. These challenges include not just acute shocks but also the stresses that weaken the fabric of the city.

Global Resilience Academy is a phase of the strategy process to make the city resilient, where city leaders and officials meet with the various intellectuals in the subject of planning and other topics to bring some plausible initiatives/projects out of the Goals/Pillars that are set by the City Strategy.

Surat, with almost 5 million population known for its diamond traders and active nightlife, is the first city in India to prepare a strategy document setting 7 Pillars; 20 Goals and 63 Initiatives. Out of which 4 such Initiatives (High Mobility Corridor, Last Mile Connectivity, Clean Tapi River, Vision Tapi River) were chosen for the Academy workshop where more than 40 experts in the field of urban transport, water management, river conservation etc. came together and shared their thoughts on these subjects and came up with some meaningful solutions to make the city resilient.
