ASIA

This year, APUF-6 will be guided by the theme “Sustainable Urban Development in Asia-Pacific: Towards a New Urban Agenda” and will take place at a key point in the development of international urban policy. APUF will be held closely following the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and one year prior to the Third United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat III).

The discussion of persistent and emerging issues related to sustainable urban development in Asia-Pacific, and in particular priority areas for the implementation of the Post-2015 development agenda will be core focus areas of the forum.

Here are ACCCRN’s thoughts on APUF-6:

Expectation of APUF-6

ACCCRN expects the APUF-6 forum to be a venue where can bring a focus on inclusivity in cities, giving perspectives from city planners and other practitioners on how to make resilience building actions at city and community levels more representative, transparent and accountable.

Key issue(s) during the Forum

A key call ACCCRN will raise is for the New Urban Agenda to focus on defining city futures through participatory processes looking at long term and inclusive outcomes that drive, but are not led by, project based solutions.

APUF can be best influence the New Urban Agenda and Habitat III

APUF can influence the New Urban Agenda and Habitat III through being a platform that demands strong commitments to rights to the city, social and environmental justice, and to international agreements that have already been made.
